  • Sanday Blether – Morning Session

    Heilsa Fjold

    This will be our first face to face Blether since the pandemic hit. As usual it will be open to anyone to come along to Heilsa Fjold on 25th May (10 – 12 pm and 1.30 – 2.30 pm). This is a drop-in event promoting the OIC/NHS Selbro Resource Centre. Saving the need to travel to Kirkwall, islanders will be able to view and try the various personal and household assistive equipment designed to help folk manage more independently. These include useful and innovative aids for every part of the house and can help folk with mobility issues and the likes of dementia sufferers. Ruth Lea, an Occupational Therapist will be on hand to provide advice. Please come along for a cuppa and a cake.  If anyone’s in need of assistance to get to Heilsa Fjold, please get in touch. It is especially important those who stand to benefit the most are able to join us.

    Scotland’s Year of Stories 2022 - ‘Walter Traill Dennison: His Life and Times’, a talk by Tom Muir To celebrate Scotland’s Year of Stories 2022, Sanday Development Trust, through the Sanday Heritage Group, have planned some events for the 24th, 25th and 26th June, focussing on Walter Traill Dennison (1825 – 1894). A native of Sanday, Walter Traill Dennison collected local folk stories and published them, many in the local dialect, in the Orcadian Sketchbook. He was also the author of a number of studies of traditional life. This event has been supported by the Year of Stories 2022 Community Stories Fund. This fund is being delivered in partnership between VisitScotland and Museums Galleries Scotland with support from National Lottery Heritage Fund thanks to National Lottery players.
